Task 1 - Digital Citizenship
In this task, i am required to create a website and blog, and then research safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in an online environment. I will then develop a set of digital guidelines for students which will be presented as a printable poster.
Research:

Technology Toolbox for Educators, sites.google.com/site/technologytoolboxforeducators/eportfolios, is a resource that has been extremely helpful in this task. On this site, there are many references to words such as "digital literacy", "digital citizen" and "digital footprint". At first glance, (depending on the generation you were born in), these terms can be daunting, unfamiliar and difficult to define. By reading Indiana Jen's blog on Student Digital Portfolio's, I was able to gain a better understanding of digital citizenship as being "an understanding of how to navigate, engage and communicate on line". www.teachthought.com/technology/4-principals-of-digital-literacy/ (TechThought, Heick, 2013) is another valuable resource. Having researched the content of this site, i was able to become a lot more familiar with the digital age and the terminology used within it. The four principles spoken about on this site are briefly defined below:
- Comprehension: the ability to extract ideas from media
- Interdependence: how different mediums of media relate and connect with each other
- Social Factors: the ability of digital media to share, store, and re-package content to hit a maximum audience
- Curation: finding, collecting and organising information.
When students engage and interact in a digital environment, they leave behind what is referred to as a digital footprint digital footprint Wikipedia, Digital Footprint, 2013. . Educating students of the many dangers that are associated with leaving a digital footprint, and continually re-enforcing the message that once information, data, photos etc are uploaded to the interent, it remains there forever, is paramont to teaching safe, responsible and ethical used of the digital medium.
