TASK 2:
For task 2 of this unit, i am required to research information related to using social media as a communication tool. I will provide a set of instructions for using social media to create a specific social event. One of my peers will then follow these instructions and provide me with feedback. I will do the same to one of my peers, by reviewing their site and giving them feedback.
Firstly, i need to think about what sort of social event i could best use social media to promote (for example, a school reunion, sporting club celebration, baby shower or engagement party). Secondly, i will need to investigate social media technology and select the most appropriate one for the event i am trying to promote. During this process, i will need to describe what the networking site does, and why I have chosen it as the most effective.
Finally, i will need to create a resource, complete with clear and concise instructions on how to access this social space, so one of my peers can follow the instructions and critique my work.
LEARNING IN AN ONLINE SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT
I have a love for true crime books, so i was intrigued by the concept of an online book club. Before i got started, i needed to understand what a social media resource was, so i did google search for 'what is social media'. I looked at Shelfari, Goodreads, Weebly and Jimdo as possible tools i could use for this task.. After a bit of reading, i decided that Shelfari was probably going to be the best option for what i had in mind. It was free, relatively simple to use, and complete with adequate online support if i needed it initially.
WHAT IS SHELFARI
Shelfari promotes itself as " a community-powered encyclopedia for book lovers". In essence, it is a book sharing technology where books can be added to a persons "shelf" from places such as Amazon. A person then marks the ones they have read, or any they would like to read. It is a fantastic resource where you can write reviews of books you have liked (or disliked) and recommend books to other people.
